The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)

WHAT IS AEP?
AEP, or the Annual Enrollment Period, is one of the key times for senior market insurance agents. This year, the time period is from:
October 15th – December 7th
NOTE: Plans are released October 1st to the public, however, enrollment does not take place until October 15th.
This is when Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their Part C (Medicare Advantage) or Part D (prescription drug) plans. Changes will take effect January 1st. Beneficiaries will be locked in their plan until the next AEP or until they have a qualifying event that allows them a Special Election Period (SEP).
Your clients need to hear from you regardless if they are staying with their current plan or changing. Carriers spend millions of dollars each year marketing in AEP. If your clients are not hearing from you, they will be bombarded with these ads from TV, radio, internet, mail, etc. and may choose to call the carrier directly if they have not heard from you!
